Full job description

The Roar Canvas (TRC) is an intentional marketing studio helping SMEs build, strengthen and grow their digital presence.

We're looking for a creative, detail-oriented Part-Time Video Editor to join us remotely and work across both TRC's own content and content created for our clients.

This isn't a role where we simply hand you footage and ask you to cut it together.

We want someone who understands content, storytelling and attention. Someone who can look at raw footage and think, “How do we make this more engaging?”

If you naturally notice why certain Reels perform better than others, have strong opinions about editing, pacing and visual storytelling, and enjoy experimenting with creative ideas, we'd love to see your work.

What you'll be doing:

You'll primarily work on Instagram Reels and TikTok videos, generally up to 3 minutes in length.

Your responsibilities may include:

Editing short-form videos from raw footage
Creating engaging cuts, pacing and visual flow
Adding captions and animated subtitles
Incorporating B-roll, stock footage, screenshots and other visual elements
Adding music and appropriate sound effects
Using zooms, punch-ins and motion to maintain attention
Creating simple motion graphics and visual effects where appropriate
Colour correction and basic audio enhancement
Creating visually engaging hooks and opening sequences
Repurposing longer-form footage into short-form content
Creating covers/thumbnails where required
Following brand guidelines and creative briefs
Finding creative ways to make educational, promotional and storytelling content more engaging
Keeping up with current short-form content and editing trends
Suggesting improvements to the content itself — not just the edit

We want your creative input. This is important.

We're not looking for someone who needs every cut, transition and caption style specified for them. You'll receive the footage, context and direction, but we want you to bring your own creative judgement to the process.

You should be comfortable saying:

“I think this hook would work better.” “This section is too slow, I'd cut it here.” “We could make this more visually interesting by adding B-roll.” “I think this part should come earlier.”

In other words, think like a content creative, not just an editor.

What we're looking for:

We're not particularly interested in how many years you've been editing.

Your portfolio matters more than your resume.

We're looking for someone who:

Has a strong short-form video editing portfolio
Understands pacing and storytelling
Knows how to keep viewers engaged
Has a good eye for visual composition
Creates captions that are clean, readable and intentional
Understands when to use effects and when not to
Can adapt their editing style to different brands and audiences
Can follow a creative brief accurately
Can also make independent creative decisions
Communicates clearly and responds reliably
Is comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions
Can work independently without constant hand-holding
Has an understanding of Instagram and TikTok content
Has strong written English

Software:

We're flexible about the software you use. Experience with CapCut, Canva and Edits is preferred, but we're open to editors who use Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or other professional editing tools. The final output matters more to us than the software you use.

You'll be a great fit if...

Things we don't want:

Please don't apply if your portfolio mainly consists of:

Generic CapCut templates
Overuse of transitions and effects
Slow, dragged-out edits
Poorly designed captions
Edits that feel obviously AI-generated
Videos without a clear story or flow
Work that looks identical across every client
Content that requires extensive step-by-step instructions

We're looking for creative thinking and good judgement, not just technical editing ability.

Work arrangement:

Part-time | Remote | Worldwide

You'll work with us remotely, so you can be based anywhere in the world.

We expect approximately 3–4 videos per week, with a typical turnaround time of 1-2 days per video.

The exact workflow and hours can be discussed with the selected candidate.

You'll therefore get exposure to different types of content rather than editing the exact same type of video every day.

Please include your preferred rate for part-time editing work.

Shortlisted applicants:

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short editing test using footage provided by TRC.

Caption style
Storytelling
Attention to detail
Creative judgement
Ability to follow a brief

We're much more interested in how you approach the footage than whether you use flashy effects.
