Job Title :Mechanical Engineer – Project Erection
Department : Project Management/Engineering
Reports To : Project Manager / Site Manager
Job Purpose:
To lead and oversee all mechanical aspects of project erection. Execution activities. The Mechanical Incharge will ensure that all activities are performed safely, according to the approved method statements, permits, and quality plans, while maintaining compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Method Statement & PTW Preparation:
- Develop and prepare method statements, Permit to Work (PTW), and Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA) for all dismantling, demolition, and erection activities.
- Ensure all documents are in compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and client requirements.
2. Onsite Supervision:
- Provide direct supervision of all mechanical dismantling, demolition, and erection activities on-site.
- Ensure that all work is performed safely and in accordance with the approved plans and procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections to verify that activities are progressing as planned and that all safety measures are in place.
3. Corrective and Preventive Actions:
- Take immediate corrective and preventive actions for any violations or unsafe conditions observed during activities.
- Implement corrective measures to prevent reoccurrence of safety issues and ensure continuous improvement in safety performance.
4. Job-Specific Training:
- Conduct job-specific safety and technical training for contractors engaged in dismantling, demolition, and erection activities.
- Ensure that all personnel are adequately trained and competent to perform their tasks safely and efficiently.
5. Resource Planning:
- Plan and coordinate the resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials needed to carry out dismantling, demolition, and erection activities safely.
- Ensure that all required equipment is available, properly maintained, and fit for purpose.
6. Incident Reporting and Prevention:
- Ensure that no violations occur during activities and report any incidents or near-misses immediately.
- Participate in incident investigations and contribute to the development of preventive measures.
7. Site Audits and Follow-up:
- Participate in site audits and inspections, taking necessary corrective actions to address any findings.
- Follow up on open action items to ensure timely closure and compliance with audit requirements.
8. Quality Inspections:
- Oversee and conduct all types of inspections (structural and equipment) during various stages of dismantling, demolition, and erection activities.
- Ensure inspections are carried out according to the approved Quality Plans (QPs) and industry standards.
- Verify the calibration status of test equipment used by manufacturers for testing purposes.
9. Fabrication & Manufacturing Inspections:
- Inspect fabrication structures at all stages and respective allocated fabrication sites.
- Oversee copper blasting and painting processes at all stages and respective allocated fabrication sites.
- Conduct inspections during stages of manufacturing/assembly at manufacturers’/sub-vendors’ premises, ensuring compliance with specifications.
10. Mechanical Testing & Verification:
- Check dimensional accuracy, alignments, runouts, clearances, finishes, painting, anti-rust treatment, galvanizing, and material soundness.
- Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods like RT, UT, PT, MT, VT, and witness performance, routine, type, proof of design, life cycle, and other mechanical tests as per approved QPs.
11. Vendor and Sub-vendor Management:
- Ensure no alterations, omissions, or variations of work under the contract are made by the supplier or their sub-vendors without approval.
- Assess vendor and sub-vendor manpower skills and equipment fitness, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Address any issues of non-compliance by issuing written notices in collaboration with the project owner.
12. Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate documentation of all quality inspection results, protocols, and test outcomes.
- Document all readings of equipment during the commissioning period (e.g., vibrations, temperature, alignment).
- Ensure that all final tests on structures, equipment, assemblies, and components are witnessed and validated, and that acceptance is granted for equipment that meets all test/inspection criteria.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Proficiency in preparing method statements, PTWs, and FLRAs.
- Experience in conducting inspections, supervising onsite activities, and coordinating resources.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and at different project sites.
- Must be physically fit and capable of performing inspections and supervising activities on-site.
