Job Title: Team lead / Sr. Engineer - Supplier Development
Job Mission
The Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) will be responsible for evaluating & developing supplier capabilities to ensure consistent delivery of quality parts at optimal cost. SDE acts as a technical interface between Epiroc and suppliers. SDE plays key role in supplier selection, evaluation & quality assurance through supplier audits & long-term strategic partnerships. Drive supplier performance through audits, assessments, root cause analysis & continuous improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Development & Capability Building
- Assess supplier technical and manufacturing capabilities against part and product requirements.
- Define, implement, and monitor supplier development plans to close capability and quality gaps.
- Support suppliers in establishing stable manufacturing processes to achieve First Time Right (FTR) and consistent quality.
Supplier Evaluation, Quality & Compliance
- Conduct supplier assessments, audits, and evaluations for quality systems, manufacturing processes, and compliance.
- Collaborate with strategic sourcing & engineering to identify new supplier aligned with business needs.
- Ensure supplier adherence to applicable Epiroc standards & quality requirements.
- Monitor and manage compliance to quality systems such as ISO/industry standards where applicable.
New Part Development (NPD)
- Lead supplier-related activities for new part and product development, particularly for heavy weldments with machining.
- Conduct detailed Technical Feasibility Reviews (TFR) with suppliers to ensure process robustness.
- Support supplier in establishing fixtures, tooling, gauges (FTGs) & SOPs to ensure consistency in quality.
- Drive APQP & PPAP activities to ensure first time right quality part.
- Work closely with Engineering, Sourcing and Production to ensure supplier readiness for NPD launches and engineering changes.
Supplier Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor supplier performance using KPIs related to quality & claims.
- Lead root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for supplier-related issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as process optimization, quality improvements, and waste reduction.
- Support implementation of Lean and other improvement methodologies at supplier sites.
Cost, Efficiency & Sustainability Support
- Support design‑to‑cost and value engineering initiatives in collaboration with Category Managers and Engineering.
- Identify cost improvement opportunities through VAVE.
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives aligned with Epiroc global policy.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or production engineering.
- 5–10 years of experience in Supplier Development, Manufacturing Engineering or Quality Engineering.
- Strong experience in fabrication, casting, forging, machining & heat treatment processes.
- Experience with supplier evaluation, audits, Part development and quality controls.
Competencies & Skills
- Sound knowledge in PPAP, APQP, FMEA, and part development processes.
- Understanding of GD&T, datums, tolerances, and CTQs.
- Knowledge of NDT methods and interpretation of test reports.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data interpretation skills.
