Operations Head – Bed Linen Manufacturing Plant

Position Summary

The Operations Head is responsible for leading and managing the complete manufacturing operations of a bed linen textile plant, ensuring high productivity, quality standards, cost efficiency, on-time delivery, workforce management, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The role oversees end-to-end production activities from yarn planning, weaving, processing, dyeing, printing, stitching, packing, and dispatch of finished bed linen products including bed sheets, pillow covers, duvet covers, fitted sheets, comforters, and institutional linen.

The Operations Head plays a strategic role in driving operational excellence, lean manufacturing, capacity utilization, process optimization, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities1. Production Planning & Execution

Lead the entire manufacturing operations of the bed linen plant.
Develop daily, weekly, and monthly production plans based on customer orders and sales forecasts.
Ensure smooth coordination between weaving, processing, cutting, stitching, finishing, packing, and dispatch departments.
Monitor production schedules to achieve output targets and delivery commitments.
Optimize machine utilization and manpower productivity.
Minimize production downtime and bottlenecks.
Ensure balanced workflow across all departments.
Drive continuous improvement in production efficiency and operational throughput.

2. Manufacturing Operations Management

Oversee all stages of bed linen manufacturing including:
Yarn sourcing coordination
Warping and sizing
Weaving operations
Dyeing and bleaching
Printing and finishing
Cutting and stitching
Inspection and packaging
Ensure operational discipline and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed.
Implement lean manufacturing practices to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
Monitor line balancing and production flow optimization.
Ensure adherence to production specifications and customer requirements.

3. Quality Assurance & Compliance

Ensure all products meet customer quality standards and international textile compliance requirements.
Coordinate with Quality Control teams for:
Fabric inspection
Color consistency
Stitching quality
Shrinkage control
GSM accuracy
Thread count verification
Analyze root causes of defects and implement corrective actions.
Reduce rejection rates, rework, and customer complaints.
Ensure compliance with ISO, OEKO-TEX, BSCI, GOTS, and other textile certifications where applicable.
Conduct regular quality audits and process inspections.

4. Cost Control & Budget Management

Manage operational budgets and production costs.
Monitor consumption of:
Fabric
Chemicals
Dyes
Utilities
Packaging materials
Control wastage and improve material utilization.
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
Improve operational efficiency to enhance plant profitability.
Review departmental expenses and optimize resource allocation.

5. Workforce & Team Management

Lead and manage production managers, supervisors, engineers, and shop-floor workers.
Develop manpower planning and shift scheduling.
Build a high-performance operational culture.
Conduct employee training on:
Production processes
Safety procedures
Quality standards
Machine handling
Monitor labor productivity and discipline.
Resolve operational and workforce issues efficiently.
Promote employee engagement and teamwork.

6. Maintenance & Engineering Coordination

Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure machine availability and reliability.
Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance schedules are followed.
Minimize machine breakdowns and production interruptions.
Monitor efficiency of:
Looms
Dyeing machines
Compacting machines
Cutting machines
Stitching lines
Packing systems
Participate in machinery upgrades and automation projects.

7. Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination

Coordinate with procurement and warehouse departments for raw material availability.
Monitor inventory levels of:
Yarn
Fabric
Dyes and chemicals
Accessories
Packaging materials
Prevent stock shortages and excess inventory.
Ensure smooth movement of materials across production stages.
Coordinate with dispatch and logistics teams for timely shipment execution.

8. Health, Safety & Environmental Management

Ensure implementation of workplace safety standards.
Enforce PPE usage and safe machine operations.
Conduct regular safety audits and emergency preparedness drills.
Ensure compliance with environmental and pollution control regulations.
Monitor waste management and sustainability initiatives.
Promote safe and healthy working conditions within the plant.

9. Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.
Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and TPM practices.
Analyze production data and KPIs for operational improvements.
Develop strategies to improve:
Productivity
Quality
Delivery performance
Cost efficiency
Introduce automation and digital manufacturing systems where feasible.

10. Customer & Vendor Coordination

Coordinate with merchandising and customer service teams regarding production commitments.
Participate in customer audits and factory visits.
Address customer quality concerns and operational escalations.
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for operational support and technical improvements.

The Operations Head will typically be measured on:

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
MBA in Operations Management preferred.
12–18 years of experience in textile manufacturing operations.
Minimum 5–8 years in leadership role within home textile or bed linen manufacturing.
