Job & Division Summary:
We are seeking a highly creative and technically skilled Industrial Designer to develop innovative, ergonomic, and visually compelling cordless and pneumatic power tools, and industrial lifting products. The ideal candidate will be proficient in translating user needs and market insights into product concepts through hand sketching followed by creating production-ready and advanced surface models using Creo and other industrial design software. The role requires close collaboration with engineering, marketing, product management, and manufacturing teams to deliver user-centric designs that align with brand identity, functionality, manufacturability, and cost targets.
Responsibilities
Concept Development & Ideation
- Generate multiple product concepts through freehand sketching.
- Create compelling product forms, styling themes, and design directions for power tools and accessories.
Product Styling & Visualization
- Develop high-quality concept sketches, renderings, and presentations.
- Create detailed design proposals that balance aesthetics, ergonomics, usability, and functionality.
- Produce photorealistic visualizations using industrial design software.
Advanced Surfacing & CAD Modeling
- Build complex and production-ready surface models using Creo Advanced Surfacing.
- Design injection-molded plastic components.
- Convert concept sketches into manufacturable 3D CAD models.
- Refine product geometry considering CMF (Color, Material & Finish), assembly requirements, and tooling constraints.
- Work with engineering teams to optimize designs for DFM/DFA requirements.
Ergonomics & User-Centered Design
- Conduct ergonomic studies and human-factor evaluations.
- Develop handle designs, grip surfaces, trigger locations, and interface layouts for superior user comfort.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Product Management, and Suppliers.
- Support rapid prototyping, design validation, and product testing activities.
- Participate in design reviews throughout the product development cycle.
Prototype & Design Validation
- Support prototype development using 3D printing and rapid prototyping technologies.
- Evaluate prototypes for form, fit, functionality, and aesthetic quality.
- Incorporate feedback from customers, stakeholders, and testing teams into final designs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Industrial Design, with 7-9 years of industrial design experience in power tools, consumer products, outdoor equipment, appliances, or related products.
Technical Skills
- Strong freehand sketching and concept visualization skills.
- Ability to communicate design intent through quick ideation sketches and presentation-quality renderings.
- Strong understanding of product form development and design aesthetics.
- Computer proficient using CAD and design software, including SolidWorks, Creo, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in cordless power tools, professional tools, garden tools, or industrial equipment.
- Understanding of injection molding, die casting, over-molding, and surface finishing processes.
- Familiarity with battery-powered products and handheld electronics.
- Knowledge of CMF development and brand language implementation.
