Position Overview
Samvad is seeking an experienced, strategic and relationship-oriented, Dy. Director, Finance, Accounts and Assurance to lead its financial management and compliances, aligned with latest government regulations and financial management standards for non-profit organisations. The incumbent to the role holds overall responsibility for Samvad's financial health, regulatory compliances and strategic financial management. The role ensures that systems, controls, reporting, and compliance - including FCRA, 80G, 12A and CSR regulations - meet the standards required by CSR, institutional funders, government regulators and the Governing Board. As Samvad scales its program operations the role builds the financial capabilities and infrastructure that makes that growth with full compliance and general assurance possible.
Key Responsibilities
A. Strategic Financial Management & Budgeting
- Financial Strategy: Support the Executive Director/Director of Finance in developing and implementing the organization’s long-term financial strategies and annual budgets.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Oversee the annual budgeting and planning process, administer financial plans, monitor ongoing variances, and conduct robust cash-flow forecasting.
- Grant Management: Spearhead project and grant accounting, collating financial reports for various donor segments and ensuring expenditures align with donor agreements.
B. Accounts & Financial Operations
- Day-to-Day Accounting: Oversee the smooth running of financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
- Financial Reporting: Develop and present timely, accurate financial statements and reports that conform to relevant accounting standards.
- Treasury Management: Monitor organizational cash flow, manage investments, and maintain steady cash balances to meet operational requirements.
C. Assurance, Audit & Compliance
- Audit Coordination: Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors, internal audit teams, and the board's audit committee.
- Internal Controls: Implement, monitor, and update internal financial policies, accounting practices, and business procedure manuals.
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure all statutory, taxation (e.g., GST, TDS, FCRA in India), and regulatory requirements are met on time.
- Risk Management: Identify potential financial risks, evaluate their severity, and implement strategies to mitigate exposure across all programs.
D. Leadership & Capacity Building
- Team Supervision: Manage, mentor, and motivate the finance and assurance teams, ensuring high standards of performance and professional development.
- Training: Provide finance training and mentoring to non-finance project staff and partner organizations to strengthen their financial management capacities.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Act as the principal finance business partner to the Senior Management Team, supporting operational decision-making.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. A Master’s degree (MBA/M.Com) is highly desirable.
- Certification: Recognized professional accounting certification (e.g., CA, CPA, ACCA, or CMA) is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of relevant finance experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management role (preferably in the NGO/development sector).
- Proven track record in managing compliances for major institutional donors (e.g., USAID, EU, UN grants) and deep understanding of local NGO regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in computerized accounting systems, ERPs, and Microsoft Excel.
- Established finance professional networks and relationships across donor agencies, foundations, development partners, private sector organizations, academic institutions and other relevant stakeholders.
g. Strategic thinking with an uncompromising commitment to financial integrity, transparency, and accountability.
h. Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and drive actionable, strategic decisions.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and ability to negotiate and collaborate across diverse, multicultural teams.
