JOB DESCRIPTION – ESTIMATION ENGINEER (CIVIL)

Position: Estimation Engineer – Civil
Department: Estimation / Projects
Experience: 4–5 Years of Relevant Experience
Industry: Construction / Real Estate
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reporting To: Project Manager / Head of Projects / Management

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Estimation Engineer – Civil with 4–5 years of relevant experience in construction estimation, quantity surveying, costing, and tendering. The candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate project estimates, quantity take-offs, BOQs, material and labour cost calculations, contractor quotations, and project budgets.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of civil construction works, excellent numerical and analytical skills, and the ability to prepare accurate estimates while maintaining cost control and commercial efficiency.

Key Responsibilities1. Quantity Take-Off & BOQ Preparation

Prepare detailed quantity take-offs from architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
Prepare and review Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for construction projects.
Calculate quantities for civil, structural, finishing, and related works.
Verify quantities and ensure accuracy before final submission.
Identify discrepancies or missing information in drawings and BOQs.

2. Cost Estimation

Prepare detailed project cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, BOQs, and project requirements.
Estimate material, labour, equipment, subcontractor, and other project-related costs.
Prepare rate analysis for various civil construction items.
Develop accurate project budgets and cost summaries.
Ensure estimates are commercially viable and aligned with project requirements.

3. Tendering & Quotation Management

Study tender documents, drawings, specifications, and scope of work.
Prepare estimates and commercial proposals for tenders.
Review and compare quotations received from suppliers and subcontractors.
Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive rates when required.
Assist in preparing tender submissions and commercial documents.

4. Material & Rate Analysis

Monitor current market rates for construction materials and labour.
Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
Prepare detailed rate analysis for construction activities.
Maintain updated databases of material, labour, and subcontractor rates.
Identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising quality.

5. Drawing & Technical Review

Review architectural, structural, and service drawings for estimation purposes.
Coordinate with architects, structural consultants, project engineers, and site teams.
Clarify technical details and scope-related issues affecting project costs.
Identify variations in drawings and assess their cost implications.

6. Project Cost Control

Monitor project costs against approved budgets and estimates.
Assist project teams in tracking material and labour costs.
Identify cost overruns and potential financial risks.
Recommend cost-saving measures and value engineering opportunities.
Support management in making cost-related decisions.

7. Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination

Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors for quotations and pricing.
Compare commercial proposals and prepare comparative statements.
Evaluate rates, scope, exclusions, and terms before final recommendations.
Assist in finalizing subcontractor and vendor rates.

8. Variation & Additional Work

Identify and calculate additional works, variations, and changes in project scope.
Prepare variation statements and revised cost estimates.
Evaluate the financial impact of design or scope changes.
Coordinate with project and site teams to verify actual quantities and completed works.

9. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain proper records of estimates, BOQs, rate analyses, quotations, and cost comparisons.
Prepare estimation reports and cost summaries for management review.
Maintain an updated database of project costs and construction rates.
Ensure all estimation documents are properly organized and accessible.

Required Qualifications

B.Tech / B.E. / Diploma in Civil Engineering.
4–5 years of relevant experience in estimation, quantity surveying, costing, or construction commercial functions.
Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, materials, and processes.
Experience in preparing BOQs, quantity take-offs, rate analysis, and project cost estimates.
Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
Proficiency in MS Excel and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of estimation and quantity surveying software is an advantage.
Experience in residential, commercial, or real estate construction projects is preferred.
