Position: FARO CMM Programmer & Inspection Engineer
Experience: 3–10 Years

1. Job Purpose
To develop and maintain FARO CMM inspection programs, perform accurate dimensional inspection of machined components, interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements, and support quality assurance, new product development, PPAP, MSA, and continuous improvement activities.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. CMM Programming & Inspection
- Develop, validate, and optimize FARO CMM inspection programs for new and existing components.
- Perform dimensional inspection of machined components using FARO CMM equipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, technical specifications, and customer requirements.
- Generate accurate dimensional inspection reports.
- Perform first-off, in-process, and final inspection as required.
- Ensure measurement methods are appropriate for the specified tolerances and characteristics.
B. Measurement & Quality Control
- Conduct dimensional analysis and capability studies.
- Perform layout inspection and sample validation.
- Analyze measurement results and communicate deviations to Production and Quality teams.
- Support root cause analysis for dimensional non-conformities.
- Verify critical dimensions and special characteristics as per control plans and customer requirements.
C. Equipment Maintenance & Calibration
- Ensure proper operation and basic preventive maintenance of FARO CMM equipment.
- Coordinate periodic calibration and verification of CMM machines and accessories.
- Maintain probe qualification and machine accuracy records.
- Report equipment abnormalities and measurement system issues to the concerned authority.
- Ensure CMM equipment is used within its approved calibration status.
D. New Product Development Support
- Participate in APQP, PPAP, and new product development activities.
- Prepare dimensional inspection reports required for customer submissions.
- Support process validation and capability studies.
- Assist Production and Quality teams during trial and development activities.
- Provide measurement data for process improvement and product validation.
E. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain CMM programs, inspection records, dimensional reports, and measurement data.
- Ensure proper revision control of CMM inspection programs.
- Maintain customer-specific inspection and submission documentation.
- Ensure traceability of inspection results and measurement records.
- Maintain records in accordance with the company's quality management system.
F. Quality System Compliance
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements and applicable customer-specific requirements.
- Participate in internal audits, process audits, and customer audits.
- Support MSA activities, including Gauge R&R studies.
- Ensure inspection and measurement records are complete, accurate, and traceable.
G. Continuous Improvement
- Improve inspection efficiency through CMM program optimization.
- Reduce inspection cycle time while maintaining measurement accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to improve measurement methods and inspection processes.
- Support quality improvement, productivity improvement, and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Contribute to reduction of measurement and dimensional inspection errors.

5. Qualifications
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Additional certification or training in CMM programming, GD&T, MSA, or metrology will be an advantage.
6. Experience
- 3–10 years of relevant experience in FARO CMM operation and programming.
- Experience in machine shop, automotive components, precision engineering, CNC machining, aerospace components, or similar manufacturing industries.
- Practical experience in dimensional inspection of precision machined components is preferred.
7. Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Expertise in FARO CMM programming and dimensional inspection.
- Good understanding of machining processes, tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
- Ability to analyze dimensional inspection results.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of MSA, SPC, APQP, PPAP, and quality documentation.
- Proficiency in MS Office and preparation of inspection reports.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Customer teams.
8. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Performance shall be evaluated based on:
- Accuracy and reliability of CMM inspection reports.
- Timely completion of inspection activities.
- CMM machine uptime and utilization.
- On-time PPAP and customer submission support.
- Reduction in dimensional inspection errors.
- Compliance with quality system and audit requirements.
- Accuracy and effectiveness of CMM programs.
- Improvement in measurement system capability.
- Reduction in inspection cycle time.
- Proper maintenance and revision control of CMM programs and records.
9. Authority
The FARO CMM Programmer & Inspection Engineer is authorized, within defined company procedures and limits, to:
- Accept or reject components based on dimensional inspection results.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions for dimensional non-conformities.
- Hold or stop production release when critical dimensions fail to meet approved specifications.
- Approve dimensional inspection reports within authorized limits.
- Recommend re-inspection or additional measurement when results are doubtful or inconsistent.
- Escalate critical quality issues to the Quality Manager / Department Head.

- Immediately report quality, equipment, calibration, or measurement-related issues to the concerned authority.
- Perform any other quality/metrology-related duties assigned by the Department Head.
