Position: PPC Engineer – Production Planning & Control

Location: Chakan, Pune, Maharashtra
1. Job Purpose
To effectively plan, coordinate, and monitor production activities from material availability through Laser Cutting, Nesting, Bending, Fabrication, Assembly and Dispatch, ensuring optimum utilization of manpower, machines and materials while achieving production targets and customer delivery schedules.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Production Planning & Scheduling
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly production plans based on customer requirements, delivery schedules and production priorities.
- Prepare process-wise production schedules for Laser Cutting, Bending, Fabrication, Assembly and other manufacturing activities.
- Monitor actual production against planned quantities and identify deviations.
- Follow up on pending jobs and ensure timely completion as per the production schedule.
- Monitor Work-in-Progress (WIP) at each stage of production.
- Prioritize production activities based on delivery commitments and critical jobs.
- Prepare and update production loading and scheduling reports.
- Ensure timely closure of production orders and work orders.
B. Laser Cutting & Nesting Planning
- Plan and coordinate Laser Cutting activities as per production requirements and delivery priorities.
- Prepare / coordinate Nesting requirements based on BOM, drawings, material grade, thickness and required quantities.
- Ensure optimum sheet utilization and minimum material wastage through effective nesting planning.
- Coordinate with the Laser Cutting team for timely execution of cutting plans.
- Monitor availability of required sheets/materials before releasing laser cutting jobs.
- Track laser-cut components and ensure timely movement to the Bending / Fabrication process.
- Monitor scrap generation and material utilization related to laser cutting and nesting.
- Coordinate with Engineering/Production teams for any issues related to drawings, revisions, cutting dimensions or material requirements.
C. Bending Planning & Coordination
- Prepare and monitor Bending production schedules based on fabrication requirements.
- Coordinate with the Bending team for timely completion of jobs as per the production plan.
- Monitor machine capacity and loading for CNC / Press Brake Bending operations.
- Ensure availability of laser-cut components before starting bending activities.
- Coordinate with Production and Quality teams for issues related to bend dimensions, sequence, tooling and drawings.
- Track WIP movement from Laser Cutting → Bending → Fabrication.
D. Material Planning & Coordination
- Monitor material availability against production requirements.
- Identify material shortages and communicate requirements to the Purchase / Stores team.
- Follow up on critical materials, bought-out items and components required for production.
- Coordinate with Stores for timely issue of materials to production.
- Support Material Requirement Planning (MRP) and inventory control activities.
- Monitor material consumption and identify abnormal material usage or wastage.
E. Production Monitoring & WIP Control
- Monitor daily production progress and prepare Plan vs. Actual reports.
- Track WIP at different production stages and identify bottlenecks.
- Follow up with Production Supervisors regarding delayed or pending jobs.
- Maintain process-wise production status and update management regularly.
- Identify bottlenecks in Laser Cutting, Bending, Fabrication and Assembly processes.
- Coordinate corrective actions for production delays and schedule deviations.
- Prepare recovery plans for delayed or critical production orders.
F. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Production, Purchase, Stores, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance and Dispatch departments.
- Communicate daily production priorities to respective production teams.
- Coordinate with Quality for inspection and clearance of critical components.
- Coordinate with Maintenance regarding machine breakdowns affecting production schedules.
- Coordinate with Dispatch to ensure finished jobs are completed as per dispatch requirements.
G. MIS & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain daily, weekly and monthly PPC MIS reports.
- Prepare Plan vs. Actual Production Reports.
- Prepare WIP and pending job reports.
- Prepare Laser Cutting, Nesting and Bending status reports.
- Prepare material shortage and production delay reports.
- Maintain production schedules, work orders and planning records.
- Update production information in ERP / MRP / MIS systems.
- Provide accurate production status and delivery information to management.
H. Capacity Planning & Productivity
- Support machine capacity planning based on order load and delivery requirements.
- Monitor utilization of Laser Cutting and Bending machines.
- Support manpower planning based on production requirements.
- Identify capacity constraints and communicate them to management.
- Analyze production efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support initiatives to improve machine utilization, material utilization, productivity and on-time delivery.
I. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to reduce production lead time and WIP.
- Support initiatives for material optimization and reduction of scrap/wastage.
- Participate in process improvement and productivity improvement activities.
- Analyze recurring production delays and support preparation of corrective action plans.
- Promote better production flow and coordination between different manufacturing processes.
3. Required Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Production Planning & Control (PPC)
- Knowledge of Heavy Fabrication / Structural Fabrication / Trailer Manufacturing
- Good understanding of Laser Cutting Operations
- Knowledge of Sheet Metal Nesting and Material Optimization
- Basic to good understanding of CNC / Press Brake Bending
- Understanding of Fabrication and Manufacturing Processes
- Ability to read Engineering Drawings
- Good understanding of BOM, Work Orders and Production Routing
- Knowledge of Material Planning and Inventory Control
- Knowledge of WIP monitoring and process-wise production tracking
- ERP / MRP system knowledge preferred
- Strong MS Excel and MIS reporting skills
- Knowledge of production capacity planning

5. Educational Qualification
Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering
6. Experience
3–5 years of relevant experience in PPC, Production Planning, Production Coordination or Manufacturing Operations, preferably in:
- Heavy Fabrication
- Structural Steel Fabrication
- Trailer Manufacturing
- Automotive / Auto Components
- Engineering Manufacturing
- Industrial Equipment Manufacturing
Candidates having practical experience in Laser Cutting, Nesting, Bending and fabrication production planning will be preferred.
