Full job description

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to manage the complete accounting and financial operations of our trading business. The candidate will be responsible for purchase and sales accounting, inventory reconciliation, GST compliance, vendor/customer ledgers, payments, receipts, and regular financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting & Bookkeeping

Maintain day-to-day accounting entries and books of accounts.
Record purchase, sales, expenses, receipts, payments, debit notes, and credit notes.
Maintain accurate ledgers for customers, suppliers, and other parties.
Perform regular bank, cash, and ledger reconciliations.
Maintain proper documentation and supporting bills for all transactions.

2. Trading & Inventory Accounting

Maintain accounting records for trading items and inventory.
Reconcile physical stock with accounting/ERP records.
Track item-wise purchases, sales, stock movements and closing inventory.
Coordinate with purchase, sales and warehouse teams to resolve stock/accounting discrepancies.
Monitor inventory valuation and ensure accurate stock records.

3. Purchase & Vendor Management

Verify purchase invoices, rates, quantities, GST details and payment terms.
Maintain supplier ledgers and outstanding payment reports.
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
Track advances paid to suppliers and their subsequent adjustments.

4. Sales & Customer Accounting

Record sales invoices and ensure correct GST and accounting treatment.
Maintain customer ledgers and accounts receivable.
Prepare ageing reports and follow up on outstanding payments.
Reconcile customer balances and resolve discrepancies.

5. GST & Statutory Compliance

Handle GST-related accounting and documentation.
Assist in the preparation and filing of GST returns such as GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.
Reconcile purchase data with GSTR-2B.
Ensure correct HSN/SAC, GST rates, and input tax credit records.
Coordinate with external CA/tax consultants for GST, TDS and other statutory requirements.
Maintain records required for audits and statutory compliance.

6. Import & Trading Transactions

Account for imported goods, including purchase invoices, freight, customs duty and other import-related costs.
Maintain proper records of import documentation and payments.
Assist in calculating landed cost of imported trading items.
Reconcile supplier invoices, shipping documents, customs documentation and bank payments.
Handle foreign-currency transactions and exchange-rate adjustments where applicable.

7. Banking & Payments

Prepare payment schedules for suppliers and other expenses.
Record and reconcile bank transactions.
Monitor incoming customer payments.
Prepare bank reconciliation statements.
Assist management with cash-flow and working-capital tracking.

8. MIS & Reporting

Prepare monthly sales, purchase and expense reports.
Prepare customer and vendor outstanding reports.
Prepare inventory and stock valuation reports.
Provide management with regular profitability and financial reports.
Track gross margins on trading products wherever required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related field.
2–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a trading, wholesale, retail, manufacturing or import business.
Strong knowledge of GST, TDS, Tally and basic accounting principles.
Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS and reconciliation.
Experience handling inventory accounting and stock reconciliation.
Good understanding of purchase, sales, receivables and payables.
Experience with import accounting and landed-cost calculation will be an advantage.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify accounting discrepancies.
Ability to independently manage day-to-day accounting operations.
Good communication and coordination skills.

Preferred

Experience working with Tally Prime, Zoho Books or other accounting/ERP software.
Experience in a trading company dealing with multiple warehouses or locations.
Knowledge of e-invoicing and e-way bills.
Experience coordinating with CA, auditors, banks and tax consultants.
Knowledge of inventory/ERP systems and SKU-wise stock management.
Prior experience with imports from China or other international suppliers is an added advantage.
