Full job description

Role Overview

The Sub Editor will play a key leadership role in managing GPlus's day-to-day editorial workflow across website, social media, video and print content. The ideal candidate should possess exceptional command over the English language, strong editorial judgment, excellent news sense, and the ability to work seamlessly across multiple content formats.

This is not a traditional desk-only role. The candidate will be expected to actively contribute to editorial planning, content strategy, newsroom coordination, and occasionally represent GPlus on camera when required.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial & News Desk Management

Edit, proofread and fact-check news reports, features, interviews and opinion pieces.
Write compelling headlines, decks, captions and social media copy.
Ensure all content adheres to GPlus editorial standards and style guidelines.
Maintain high standards of grammar, accuracy, clarity and readability.
Monitor news developments and identify stories with strong audience potential.

Digital & Social Media Leadership

Oversee the daily functioning of the digital and social media desk.
Guide content packaging for website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and emerging platforms.
Identify opportunities for breaking news, trending stories and audience engagement.
Collaborate with reporters and content creators to optimise stories for digital consumption.

Video & Multimedia

Conceptualise and script video content, explainers and special reports.
Assist in planning and executing video-led storytelling initiatives.
Appear on camera when required for explainers, interviews, PTCs, reels or special features.
Coordinate with video editors and production teams to maintain editorial quality.

Team Leadership & Coordination

Act as a bridge between reporters, digital teams, designers and management.
Ensure deadlines are met across all editorial verticals.
Take ownership of editorial output

Required Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English or a related field.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a newsroom environment.
Prior experience as a Sub Editor, Copy Editor, Senior Content Editor or equivalent role preferred.
Experience in digital journalism and social media publishing is essential.
Experience in print media will be an added advantage.

Essential Skills

Impeccable command over written and spoken English.
Strong news sense and editorial judgment.
Ability to identify angles, trends and stories that resonate with audiences.
Excellent proofreading and copy-editing skills.
Strong understanding of digital publishing and audience behaviour.
Familiarity with SEO, web publishing platforms and social media best practices.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Strong organisational and leadership skills.

Preferred Skills

On-camera presentation experience.
Experience in scripting and producing video content.
Familiarity with graphic design, AI tools and multimedia storytelling.
Knowledge of Assam, Northeast India and regional socio-political issues.
