Position Title: Asst. Manager Welding Processes

Department: Technology

Location: Waluj, Chh. Sambhajinagar

Reporting To: – Industrial Engineering

1. Purpose of the Position

To lead and manage welding engineering activities ensuring compliance with applicable international standards (ISO 3834, PED, ASME) and to drive quality, productivity, and process optimization in welding operations across Flow India.

2. Key Responsibilities

2.1 Welding Process Development & Control

Develop, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualifications (WPQ)

Define welding parameters, joint designs, and welding sequences for critical components

Optimize welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, Laser, Orbital, Robotic welding) for quality and efficiency

Conduct welding trials for new products, materials, and thickness ranges

2.2 Compliance & Quality Assurance

Ensure compliance with ISO 3834, PED Module H, ASME Section IX, and relevant ISO/EN standards

Conduct welding audits and process assessments

Define and implement inspection and testing requirements including NDT (VT, PT, RT, UT)

Monitor welding KPIs such as rejection rates, repair rates, and process capability

2.3 Welding Coordination (ISO 3834)

Act as Responsible Welding Coordinator as per ISO 3834 requirements

Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and control of welding activities

Review and approve welding documentation including WPS, weld maps, and repair procedures

Support internal and external audits and certification processes

2.4 Production Support & Problem Solving

Provide technical support for production issues related to welding

Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of welding defects and implement corrective actions

Support automation initiatives including robotic welding systems

Ensure effective utilization of welding consumables and cost control

2.5 Supplier Quality & Development

Evaluate and approve suppliers for welding capability and compliance

Review supplier welding procedures and welder qualifications

Drive supplier development initiatives for welding quality improvement

2.6 Training & Competency Development

Train welders, inspectors, and engineers on welding processes and quality requirements

Ensure periodic qualification and certification of welding personnel

Develop internal competencies aligned with ISO and PED requirements

2.7 Cross-functional Collaboration

Collaborate with Design, Quality, Production, Purchase, and Industrial Engineering teams
Support new product development with weldability assessment and cost optimization
Contribute to TPM, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives

3. Educational Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Metallurgical Engineering
Preferred: Master’s Degree in Welding / Materials Engineering
Certification: International Welding Engineer (IWE) / IWT / IWS preferred

4. Experience
Minimum 15 years of experience in welding engineering in manufacturing industry
Experience in pressure equipment, process industry, or similar environment preferred

5. Technical Competencies
Strong knowledge of welding processes: GTAW, GMAW, Laser, Orbital, Robotic
Expertise in standards: ISO 3834, ISO 15614, ISO 9606, PED, ASME Section IX
Knowledge of metallurgy, weld defects, and inspection techniques
Understanding of welding automation and digital systems

Reduction in weld rejection and repair rates

8. Authority / Decision Making

Approval of welding procedures and qualifications

Technical decisions related to welding processes and quality

Recommendation of suppliers for welding capability

9. Interfaces

Internal: Production, Quality, Design, Purchase, Industrial Engineering

External: Suppliers, Certification Bodies, Auditors

10. Additional Requirements

Knowledge of SAP and documentation systems preferred

Willingness to travel for supplier development and audits• Supplier quality performance
