Job Purpose
To lead and manage all mechanical maintenance activities across the sweets and savouries manufacturing facility and retail outlets, ensuring maximum equipment availability, safe and reliable operation, minimum breakdowns, and optimum maintenance costs.
The role is responsible for preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of production machinery, utilities, material-handling equipment, kitchen equipment and mechanical systems across manufacturing and outlet operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Management
- Plan, schedule and execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities for all mechanical equipment.
- Ensure maximum availability and reliability of production machinery.
- Monitor equipment breakdowns, identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and checklists.
- Reduce machine downtime through effective maintenance planning.
- Maintain proper records of breakdowns, maintenance activities, spare parts and equipment history.
- Establish equipment-wise maintenance standards and SOPs.
2. Production Equipment Maintenance
Responsible for maintenance of mechanical systems and machinery such as:
- Sweet-making and cooking equipment
- Kettles, steam cooking systems and mixers
- Fryers and savoury production machinery
- Dough mixers, kneaders and forming machines
- Sev, boondi, namkeen and snack-making equipment
- Conveyor systems
- Packaging and filling machinery – mechanical systems
- Pumps, motors, gearboxes and drives
- Compressors and associated mechanical systems
- Chillers, refrigeration and HVAC mechanical systems
- Boilers, steam lines and associated equipment, where applicable
- Material-handling equipment
- Kitchen and food-processing equipment
- Water-treatment and utility equipment
3. Utilities & Facility Maintenance
- Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of mechanical utilities.
- Coordinate maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration, compressed air, water systems, pumps and other utilities.
- Monitor utility equipment performance and energy consumption.
- Identify opportunities for energy saving and equipment efficiency improvement.
- Coordinate with electrical, civil and other engineering teams for integrated maintenance activities.
4. Retail Outlet Maintenance
- Manage mechanical maintenance requirements across all retail outlets.
- Ensure timely resolution of equipment and facility-related mechanical complaints.
- Support maintenance of kitchen equipment, exhaust systems, refrigeration systems, display equipment and other mechanical assets.
- Establish a preventive maintenance schedule for outlet equipment.
- Coordinate with outlet managers and service vendors to minimize operational disruption.
- Monitor service response time and ensure complaints are closed within defined timelines.
5. Breakdown & Emergency Maintenance
- Respond promptly to critical equipment breakdowns.
- Lead troubleshooting and restoration of equipment to minimize production losses.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major and recurring breakdowns.
- Implement permanent corrective actions rather than repeated temporary repairs.
- Maintain breakdown history and analyze recurring failures.
6. Team Management
- Lead, supervise and develop mechanical maintenance technicians, fitters and other maintenance personnel.
- Allocate daily maintenance activities and monitor work completion.
- Conduct toolbox meetings and maintenance briefings.
- Train technicians on equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and safe work practices.
- Evaluate team performance and identify training requirements.
7. Spare Parts & Inventory Management
- Identify and maintain critical mechanical spare parts.
- Establish minimum and maximum stock levels for critical spares.
- Control maintenance consumable usage and inventory.
- Coordinate with procurement for timely availability of spares.
- Identify local suppliers and service providers for critical equipment.
- Ensure proper storage and identification of maintenance spares.
8. Vendor & Contractor Management
- Manage external maintenance contractors and equipment service providers.
- Coordinate AMC/service contracts for critical equipment.
- Evaluate vendor performance, service quality and response time.
- Review quotations and technical specifications in coordination with management/procurement.
- Ensure contractors follow safety and food-industry requirements while working inside the facility.
9. Projects & Installation
- Support installation, commissioning and trial runs of new machinery and equipment.
- Review mechanical requirements for new equipment and plant expansion projects.
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers, contractors, production and quality teams.
- Ensure proper documentation, manuals, drawings and maintenance requirements are obtained for new equipment.
- Participate in equipment selection from a maintenance and reliability perspective.
10. Safety, Hygiene & Compliance
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with company safety procedures and applicable statutory requirements.
- Ensure proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices during maintenance.
- Ensure safe use of tools, welding equipment, lifting equipment and other maintenance machinery.
- Maintain food hygiene and housekeeping standards while carrying out maintenance work in production areas.
- Prevent contamination risks arising from maintenance activities.
- Ensure maintenance work does not adversely affect product quality or food safety.
11. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and review:
- Daily/weekly/monthly maintenance reports
- Preventive maintenance compliance reports
- Breakdown and downtime reports
- Machine availability reports
- Spare parts consumption reports
- Maintenance cost reports
- Energy and utility performance reports
- RCA/CAPA reports
- AMC and vendor performance reports

Educational Qualification
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- Additional certification in maintenance management, reliability engineering or industrial safety will be an advantage.
Experience
- 8–15 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance.
- Experience in food manufacturing, sweets, savouries, snacks, bakery, FMCG or similar process industries is preferred.
- Experience managing maintenance activities across manufacturing plants and multiple retail outlets will be an added advantage.
- Should have hands-on experience in preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting and team management.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment and industrial machinery.
- Good understanding of pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, conveyors, valves and pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
- Knowledge of welding, fabrication and basic machining requirements.
Pay: ₹45,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
