PGT Biology – Job Description (JD)

Position: Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) – Biology
Department: Senior Secondary (Classes XI–XII)
Reports To: Principal / Vice Principal / HOD Science

Job Summary

A PGT Biology teacher is responsible for teaching Biology to senior secondary students as per CBSE/ICSE/State Board curriculum. The role includes delivering theoretical and practical knowledge in Botany and Zoology, conducting laboratory activities, and preparing students for board and competitive examinations.

Key Responsibilities

Teach Biology to Classes XI & XII:
Botany
Zoology
Human Physiology
Genetics
Ecology & Environment
Biotechnology (where applicable)
Prepare lesson plans, assignments, worksheets, presentations, and study material.
Conduct practical classes and laboratory experiments safely and effectively.
Prepare and evaluate tests, practical exams, projects, and answer sheets.
Guide students for board exams and competitive exams such as NEET foundation.
Maintain biology laboratory records, specimens, microscopes, and equipment.
Use smart boards, models, charts, and digital learning tools for effective teaching.
Track student performance and provide remedial support where required.
Maintain classroom discipline and encourage scientific inquiry and curiosity.
Participate in PTMs, academic meetings, workshops, and school activities.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Biology / Botany / Zoology / Life Sciences with minimum 50% marks.
B.Ed. from a recognized university (mandatory in most schools).
CTET/TET qualification preferred for some institutions.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.

Experience

Fresher or 1–5 years of teaching experience preferred.
Experience teaching senior secondary classes in CBSE/ICSE schools is an advantage.

Laboratory handling and demonstration skills
Classroom management and student engagement
Communication and mentoring ability
Analytical and observational skills
Computer proficiency (MS Office, Smart Boards, ERP systems)

Depending on experience, institution, and qualifications

Additional Responsibilities

Ensure proper maintenance of biology lab equipment and specimens.
Organize science fairs, exhibitions, and biology-related activities.
Stay updated with curriculum changes and advancements in biological sciences.
