About the Company & Project
Carbon Secure India Pvt. Ltd. (CSI) is a fast-growing climate-tech startup building a large-scale biochar carbon removal project on a 60 acre site.
Using paddy straw and rice husk as feedstock, we plan to operate industrial molten salt pyrolysers at Ludhiana, Punjab.
Carbon is planned to be sequestered through innovative burial of biochar in underground vertical silos for durable, high-integrity credits.
Commercial production commences in October 2026, with a targeted scale-up to 20 MT of biochar per day by year-end.
We aim to achieve first issuances of carbon credits by February 2027.
Role Overview
Part of the senior management team. Possibility that you may be Unit Head, dependent on experience and skill sets.
You will lead the end-to-end engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the reactors, syngas-fed rotary dryers, bio-oil processing and a possible 12 MW syngas cogeneration unit.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for delivering the complete process infrastructure on time, within budget, safely, and with reliable real-time sensing integration.
Key Responsibilities
Design and oversee construction of reactors (including refractory selection, structural design, insulation, and sealing for high-temperature pyrolysis).
Lead specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of syngas-fed rotary dryers for paddy straw pre-treatment (moisture reduction, feed consistency).
Manage the cogeneration system – from gas cleaning, engine/turbine selection, heat recovery, grid synchronisation, and power export.
Integrate real-time sensing and IoT systems across all equipment (temperature, pressure, gas composition (CO, H₂, CH₄), flow, emissions) for process control, safety, and MRV compliance.
Manage EPC contractors, vendors, and civil/mechanical/electrical subcontractors; enforce quality, safety (HAZOP, risk assessments), and timeline adherence.
Prepare and track project schedules, budgets, BOQs, and progress reports.
Coordinate with the Chemical/Process Engineer on process optimisation and with the sustainability team on MRV data requirements from the new systems.
Lead commissioning, performance testing, and handover of all systems for commercial production.
Ensure compliance with Punjab pollution control norms, electrical safety, and factory licensing requirements.
Requirements
Bachelor’s/Master’s in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
Proven experience in refractory brick kiln construction (vertical or similar), syngas handling, rotary dryers, and small-to-medium scale cogeneration (ideally 5–15 MW).
Strong project management skills ( Primavera/MS Project, cost control).
Knowledge of real-time sensing/IoT integration for thermal processes.
Excellent vendor and contractor management experience.
Hands-on, safety-first mindset with the ability to work in a fast-track industrial setup.
