Project Background

The Adolescent Health Project aims to improve the health, nutrition, and well-being of adolescents through school- and community-based interventions, with a specific focus on anemia prevention, nutrition awareness, deworming, and health-seeking behaviour.

Purpose of the Position

The Educationist will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing adolescent health education and service delivery activities in schools and underserved communities. The role combines field outreach, health education, coordination with stakeholders, and basic health service support, particularly around anemia prevention and adolescent nutrition.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Mapping and Planning

Conduct detailed mapping of government and private schools where adolescent health programs will be implemented.
Identify and map underserved and vulnerable communities where out-of-school adolescents can be reached.
Prepare activity plans

2. Coordination and Permissions

Liaise with relevant government departments (education, health, ICDS, local administration, etc.) to obtain necessary approvals and permissions for program implementation.
Coordinate with school authorities, headmasters, teachers, and school management committees for scheduling sessions and activities.

3. Awareness and Education Sessions

Conduct structured awareness sessions for adolescents in schools and underserved communities on:
Adolescent health and hygiene
Nutrition and dietary diversity
Anaemia prevention and management
Importance of iron supplementation and deworming
Menstrual & Reproductive Health
Use age-appropriate, culturally sensitive IEC and BCC materials during sessions.

4. Health Screening and Service Support

Conduct haemoglobin (Hb) testing for adolescents as per project and government guidelines.
Provide counseling and nutrition awareness to adolescents focusing on locally available, affordable food options.
Support the distribution of Iron Folic Acid (IFA) and albendazole tablets to adolescents as per prescribed protocols.
Maintain accurate records of tablet distribution and track adherence and consumption.

5. Stock Management

Monitor stock levels of IFA tablets, albendazole, Hb testing supplies, and IEC materials.
Maintain stock registers and ensure timely requisition to avoid stock-outs.
Ensure proper storage and handling of medicines and testing equipment.

6. Community and Stakeholder Engagement

Conduct meetings and orientation sessions with parents, caregivers, and teachers to build awareness and support for adolescent health interventions.
Engage community influencers, including local leaders, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and youth leaders, to strengthen outreach and participation.
Facilitate community-level IPC sessions to address myths, misconceptions, and barriers related to adolescent health.

7. Health Camps and Special Events

Support planning and organization of adolescent health camps in schools and communities.
Coordinate with medical teams and local stakeholders during camps.
Ensure mobilization of adolescents and community members for maximum participation.

8. Documentation and Reporting

· Ensure timely and accurate digital entry of all program data in the PSS ARM platform, including details of awareness sessions conducted, adolescents reached, haemoglobin (Hb) tests conducted, distribution of IFA and albendazole tablets, follow-ups, and compliance tracking.

· Maintain complete, up-to-date digital records and ensure data quality, accuracy, and confidentiality as per project protocols.

· Prepare and submit periodic field reports, case studies, and success stories using data, as per prescribed formats and timelines.

9. Improving Clinic Referrals

· Identify Adolescents requiring menstrual or gynaecological disorders

· Refer them to Stree Clinics

· Keep a track of their treatment and follow-ups

Key Skills and Competencies

Strong communication and facilitation skills
Ability to work with adolescents, parents, teachers, and community stakeholders
Basic understanding of adolescent health, nutrition, anaemia, and public health programmes
Good record-keeping and reporting skills
Cultural sensitivity and community engagement skills
Willingness to travel extensively in field areas

Educational Qualification and Experience

Graduate in education, social sciences, public health, nutrition, social work, or a related field (postgraduate qualification preferred).
Prior experience (3-5 years) in community health, school health programs, nutrition, or adolescent-focused projects is desirable.
Experience working with government systems and community-based programs will be an added advantage.

Other Requirements

Ability to work independently in field settings with minimal supervision.
Basic computer skills for reporting and data entry.
Fluency in Bengali is essential; knowledge of Hindi and English will be an advantage.
