Full job description

Job Summary

The Physician Assistant will assist consultants and physicians in providing safe, efficient, and patient-centered clinical care. The role involves patient assessment, clinical documentation, assisting in procedures, monitoring patients, coordinating investigations, and supporting the medical team in day-to-day clinical activities.

Key Responsibilities

Assist consultants/physicians in patient assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
Obtain and document patient history, vital signs, symptoms, and relevant clinical information.
Monitor patients and promptly report any changes in clinical condition to the concerned physician.
Assist in minor procedures, clinical examinations, and other interventions as directed by the physician.
Review and follow up on laboratory and diagnostic investigation reports under physician supervision.
Maintain accurate and timely patient medical records and clinical documentation.
Assist in preparing treatment plans and ensuring appropriate follow-up as instructed by the consultant.
Coordinate with nursing, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and other departments for patient care.
Educate patients and attendants regarding medications, investigations, procedures, follow-up, and general care as instructed by the physician.
Assist in emergency situations and provide immediate clinical support within the scope of practice.
Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, infection prevention practices, patient safety standards, and NABH requirements.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
Participate in clinical meetings, training programs, audits, and quality improvement activities.
Ensure proper handover of patient-related information to the concerned healthcare team.
Perform other clinical duties assigned by the consultant or management within the permitted scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant / Physician Associate or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Valid registration/licensure, wherever applicable, as per prevailing regulations.
Additional clinical certifications will be an advantage.

Experience

Minimum 2–5 years of relevant clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
Experience working with consultants, inpatient/outpatient services, emergency care, or specialty departments will be preferred.

Required Skills

Strong clinical observation and patient assessment skills.
Good knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with doctors, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams.
Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
Ability to handle emergency and stressful situations.
Patient-centered approach and professional conduct.
Good computer and hospital information system skills.
