Full job description

A Project Manager in a road construction or infrastructure firm leads the end-to-end execution of large civil projects. They are responsible for project lifecycles, ensuring highways, bridges, or infrastructure developments are completed safely, on time, and within budget while managing contracts, budgets, and stakeholder relations.

Core Responsibilities

Project Lifecycle Execution: Oversee site operations from pre-construction planning and land acquisition to final execution, testing, and handover. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Budget & Cost Management: Develop detailed project budgets, track daily P&L, process contractor bills, and negotiate material purchase contracts. [1]
Schedule & Resource Planning: Create baseline timelines (using tools like MS Project or Primavera), monitor material lifecycles, and allocate heavy machinery and manpower efficiently. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Quality & Safety Compliance: Ensure all construction strictly adheres to technical specifications, local building codes, and safety standards to prevent on-site incidents. [1]
Stakeholder Management: Coordinate daily with government bodies (e.g., NHAI or local PWD in India), consultants, EPC contractors, and local communities. [1, 2]
Risk Mitigation: Identify and resolve site-level bottlenecks such as supply chain delays, right-of-way issues, or adverse weather conditions. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. A master's degree (like NICMAR) or a PMP certification is highly preferred. [1, 2, 3]
Experience: Typically 10-15+ years of hardcore experience in roadworks, highway construction, or heavy civil infrastructure. [1, 2, 3]
Domain Knowledge: Understanding of asphalt/bitumen or concrete technology, earthworks, grading, structural design, and bulk material handling. [1]
Software Skills: Proficiency in project management software (MS Project, Primavera), CAD programs, and automated reporting systems. [1, 2, 3]
Essential Soft Skills
Conflict Resolution: Ability to solve unexpected site challenges and handle contract negotiations calmly.
Leadership: Capable of directing large, multi-disciplinary teams of site engineers, surveyors, and laborers.
