About the Role

The Principal will be the academic, administrative, and cultural head of the institution — accountable to the Management Committee / Trustees for the day-to-day running and long-term growth of the school. This is a full P&L-style leadership role with end-to-end ownership.

You will lead a faculty of ~50–80, oversee 800+ students from Pre-Primary to Class XII, and represent the school externally with parents, the CBSE board, regulatory authorities, and the wider Kharagpur community.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

Drive CBSE curriculum delivery across Pre-Primary to Class XII, ensuring NEP 2020 alignment
Set and monitor board examination outcomes (Class X and Class XII), aiming for measurable year-on-year improvement
Lead pedagogy innovation, lesson observation, and academic SOPs
Oversee Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), ASL, project work, and assessment integrity

Faculty & Team Management

Recruit, induct, train, mentor, and appraise teaching and non-teaching staff
Build a culture of continuous professional development — internal training calendars, CBSE workshops, peer learning
Drive faculty retention through coaching, recognition, and structured growth paths

Student Welfare & Holistic Development

Champion student safety, discipline, counselling, and pastoral care
Oversee co-curricular, sports, arts, and house-system activities
Lead POCSO compliance, anti-ragging, and student grievance redressal

Admissions, Brand & Community

Partner with the Admissions team to deliver annual enrolment targets
Anchor PTMs, open houses, parent communication cadence, and complaint resolution
Represent the school at inter-school forums, CBSE meets, and Kharagpur civic platforms

Compliance & Administration

Maintain full compliance with CBSE Affiliation Bye-laws, RTE, safety audits, fire & transport norms
Lead annual audits — CBSE inspection, statutory, fire, safety, financial
Manage the school's MIS, attendance, fee-collection cadence, and vendor oversight

Reporting to Management

Monthly performance reviews with Trustees / Management Committee — academic, financial, operational

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in any discipline from a recognised university
B.Ed. or M.Ed. (mandatory for CBSE compliance)
6+ years of experience as Principal in a CBSE-affiliated school (Vice-Principal experience does not count)
Demonstrated track record of leading a school with 500+ student strength
Working knowledge of CBSE Affiliation Bye-laws and NEP 2020 implementation
Fluent in English (instruction language) and Hindi; familiarity with Bengali strongly preferred
Strong written communication for board reporting, parent correspondence, and CBSE filings

Preferred Qualifications

Prior leadership in a school based in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, or Eastern India
Experience driving admissions growth — moving enrolment numbers materially year-on-year
Familiarity with digital classroom platforms (Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams for Education, ERP systems like Campus 365, Fedena, or similar)
Experience leading a CBSE re-affiliation or upgradation cycle
Exposure to boarding/residential school operations is a plus (if applicable to the school's structure)
