Manager – Carrier Management Team (CMT)
We are looking for an energetic, target-oriented, and experienced Manager to lead our Carrier Management Team (CMT). The CMT Manager will be responsible for overseeing the team that supports Freight Brokers by sourcing, negotiating with, qualifying, and securing reliable carriers for available freight.
The CMT Manager will play a critical role in ensuring efficient load coverage, competitive carrier pricing, strong carrier relationships, and timely execution of shipments across our logistics operations, including OTR, Drayage, and Freight Forwarding.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of the U.S. trucking and freight market, excellent leadership and negotiation skills, and the ability to build a high-performing, results-driven carrier management team.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Management
- Lead, manage, and motivate the Carrier Management Team to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly performance targets.
- Assign loads and carrier-sourcing activities to CMT Executives based on workload, priority, and broker requirements.
- Monitor individual and team performance and provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance improvement guidance.
- Establish clear productivity, load coverage, and carrier sourcing expectations for the team.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review performance, challenges, market conditions, and operational priorities.
- Train new CMT team members on carrier sourcing, negotiation, load boards, TMS/CRM systems, and company procedures.
- Develop and implement processes to improve team productivity, carrier response rates, load coverage, and overall efficiency.
Carrier Sourcing & Load Coverage
- Work closely with Freight Brokers to understand available loads, lane requirements, equipment needs, pickup and delivery schedules, and target rates.
- Oversee the sourcing of qualified and reliable carriers for OTR, Drayage, and other available freight.
- Ensure the team actively searches for carriers through load boards, carrier networks, calls, emails, referrals, and other sourcing channels.
- Support the team in securing capacity for difficult, urgent, or high-priority loads.
- Monitor load coverage throughout the day and ensure uncovered loads receive immediate attention.
- Step in personally to assist with challenging lanes, difficult negotiations, or time-sensitive shipments when required.
Rate Negotiation & Cost Management
- Oversee carrier rate negotiations to secure competitive pricing while meeting service and coverage requirements.
- Monitor market rates, lane trends, capacity, fuel conditions, and carrier availability.
- Establish appropriate negotiation strategies and guidelines for the CMT team.
- Review negotiated rates and identify opportunities to improve margins and reduce transportation costs.
- Assist Freight Brokers with carrier pricing strategies when needed.
Carrier Relationship & Network Development
- Build and maintain a strong network of reliable and service-oriented carriers.
- Develop long-term relationships with trucking companies, owner-operators, drayage providers, and other transportation partners.
- Identify high-performing carriers and encourage repeat business and consistent lane coverage.
- Monitor carrier performance and address recurring service or communication issues.
- Expand the company's carrier network across key U.S. freight lanes and markets.
Carrier Qualification & Compliance
- Oversee the collection and verification of carrier information and required documentation.
- Ensure carriers meet company requirements before loads are booked.
- Coordinate with the appropriate teams to verify carrier authority, insurance, and other required compliance information.
- Ensure the CMT follows company policies and applicable U.S. transportation requirements.
- Escalate carrier compliance or service concerns when necessary.
Operations & Broker Coordination
- Maintain close communication with Freight Brokers throughout the load coverage process.
- Ensure CMT Executives provide brokers with accurate carrier options, rates, availability, and relevant carrier information.
- Coordinate with brokers and carriers to ensure loads are booked and executed efficiently.
- Monitor pickup and delivery status and assist in resolving carrier-related issues.
- Escalate delays, missed appointments, service failures, or other critical issues to the appropriate management team.
- Work closely with Operations, Accounting, and other departments to ensure smooth shipment processing.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Track and analyze CMT performance using key operational and sales metrics.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports for management.
- Identify gaps in load coverage, carrier response, productivity, and negotiation performance.
- Develop action plans to improve underperforming areas.
- Maintain accurate records of carrier activity, load coverage, rates, calls, follow-ups, and team performance.

Requirements
- Previous experience in U.S. freight brokerage, carrier management, logistics, trucking, transportation, or 3PL operations.
- Prior experience managing or supervising a team is preferred.
- Strong understanding of the U.S. trucking and freight market.
- Experience with OTR freight is required; knowledge of Drayage and Freight Forwarding is a strong advantage.
- Strong carrier sourcing and rate negotiation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Confident in communicating and negotiating with U.S.-based carriers.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-management abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple loads and priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with load boards, TMS, CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and other logistics software.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills.
- Highly organized with excellent follow-up and attention to detail.
