Position Summary
We are seeking a technically skilled and customer-focused Service Engineer to provide installation, preventive maintenance, breakdown support, calibration, and application-oriented technical assistance for advanced microscopy and life science imaging systems.
The Service Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring maximum instrument uptime, customer satisfaction, and adherence to service quality standards. The position requires frequent travel to research institutions, universities, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology organizations, hospitals, and government laboratories across the assigned territory.

Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
- Install and commission microscopy and imaging systems at customer sites.
- Perform instrument acceptance testing and validation.
- Configure imaging software, cameras, controllers, and workstations.
- Provide operational training to end users following installation.
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance as per company and manufacturer guidelines.
- Inspect, clean, calibrate, and optimize optical and mechanical components.
- Verify system performance and recommend preventive actions to minimize downtime.
- Maintain detailed preventive maintenance records.
Breakdown Service & Troubleshooting
- Attend customer service calls within defined response timelines.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, optical, mechanical, and electronic issues.
- Replace defective components and restore instrument functionality.
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers or factory support when required.
- Ensure timely closure of service cases.
Customer Support
- Provide professional and responsive technical support to customers.
- Guide customers on best practices for instrument operation and maintenance.
- Address technical queries related to imaging systems and accessories.
- Build long-term customer relationships through excellent service delivery.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare installation reports, service reports, preventive maintenance reports, and calibration records.
- Maintain accurate service documentation and CRM records.
- Track spare parts utilization and inventory.
- Submit weekly service activity reports and monthly performance summaries.
Spare Parts & Inventory Management
- Maintain service tools and test equipment in good working condition.
- Coordinate with logistics and spare parts teams for timely availability of replacement parts.
- Monitor critical spare inventory within the assigned region.
Technical Support
- Assist the sales and applications teams during product demonstrations when required.
- Support factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).
- Participate in product upgrades, software updates, and customer training programs.
- Coordinate with global technical support teams for advanced troubleshooting.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow company quality standards and service SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with customer site safety requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of customer research and laboratory information.
- Adhere to manufacturer service protocols and documentation standards.
Educational Qualifications
Essential
- B.E./B.Tech. in:
- Electronics & Communication Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Instrumentation Engineering
- Biomedical Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering (with strong electronics aptitude)
OR
- M.Sc. in Physics, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Optical Sciences with relevant experience.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in servicing scientific instruments, laboratory equipment, or advanced microscopy systems.
- Experience with optical instruments, biomedical equipment, or imaging systems is highly desirable.
- Experience in field service for capital equipment will be an added advantage.
