Full job description

About the Role

We're looking for an Outreach & Link Building Specialist to join our growing SEO team.

Your main responsibility will be helping us secure high-quality backlinks for our SEO clients through targeted outreach, relationship building and negotiation.

We already have established link-building processes and will train you on how we work. However, we're looking for someone who can bring their own experience and ideas rather than simply follow instructions.

Ideally, you'll already have experience with link building, email outreach, cold email or lead generation and understand how to take an outreach campaign from prospecting all the way through to a successful placement.

You'll also have the opportunity to help us improve our wider cold-email systems, including campaigns for our own agency.

What You'll Be Doing

Link Building & Prospecting

Research and identify relevant, high-quality websites for client link-building campaigns
Build targeted prospect lists based on relevance, quality and client requirements
Find and verify contact information for website owners, editors and publishers
Identify new link-building opportunities and outreach strategies
Assess potential websites to ensure they meet our quality standards
Maintain organised and accurate records of prospects, conversations and placements
Work across clients in a variety of industries and niches

Outreach

Contact website owners, publishers and editors through email outreach
Write and adapt outreach messages depending on the website and opportunity
Manage follow-up sequences to maximise response rates
Manage replies and conversations from initial contact through to placement
Build genuine, long-term relationships with useful publishers and website owners
Test different outreach messages, approaches and sequences to improve results
Monitor outreach performance and identify opportunities for improvement

Negotiation & Placement Costs

We don't want someone who simply accepts the first price a publisher quotes.

You'll be expected to:

Negotiate with website owners and publishers to secure competitive placement prices
Use previous pricing, site quality and commercial judgement when negotiating
Identify opportunities to secure better rates through repeat business and existing relationships
Balance link quality, relevance and cost when making decisions
Help us reduce average link acquisition costs without compromising quality
Build relationships that allow us to secure preferential pricing over time

Good commercial judgement is important. The cheapest link isn't necessarily the best link, but neither should we be paying £100 for something that could reasonably have been negotiated to £70.

Your Existing Network

We're particularly interested in candidates who have already worked in link building or outreach and have built their own network.

It would be a strong advantage if you already have:

Relationships with website owners, editors or publishers
Your own database or lists of websites you've previously worked with
Contacts across multiple industries or niches
Knowledge of typical placement pricing
Publishers you've worked with repeatedly and can approach directly
Relationships that may allow you to secure better pricing or faster placements

Having an existing network isn't essential, but it will be viewed as a significant advantage.

You'll also be expected to continually expand and improve our own internal outreach database as part of the role.

Cold Email & Lead Generation

Alongside client link building, there will be opportunities to help improve our wider cold-email activity.

Depending on your experience, this could include:

Building and cleaning prospect lists
Finding and enriching contact information
Segmenting prospects
Setting up cold-email campaigns
Creating and testing email sequences
Managing follow-ups
Monitoring replies and campaign performance
Improving response rates
Supporting email deliverability
Managing sending inboxes and domains
Helping with our agency's own lead-generation campaigns

You don't need to be an expert in every area of cold email from day one.

However, hands-on cold-email experience is a strong advantage.

What We're Looking For

Essential

Previous experience in link building, outreach, cold email or lead generation
Good written English and communication skills
Strong internet research and prospecting skills
Comfortable communicating and negotiating with website owners and publishers
Good negotiation skills and commercial awareness
Organised and able to manage multiple campaigns at the same time
Comfortable working with spreadsheets and online tools
Able to follow established processes while also suggesting improvements
Able to work independently and take responsibility for your work
Good attention to detail
Comfortable being measured on results rather than simply activity
Willing to learn and develop your skills

You don't need experience with every tool listed above.

We're more interested in someone who understands outreach and gets results than someone who has simply used lots of software.

What Success Looks Like

The main goal of the role is simple:

Consistently secure good-quality, relevant links for our clients at commercially sensible prices.

We'll look at things such as:

Number of successful placements
Quality and relevance of placements
Client link targets achieved
Positive outreach response rates
Average placement cost
Negotiated savings
Quality of new prospects being added
Development of new publisher relationships
Organisation and accuracy of campaign records
Reliability of delivery

Over time, we'd also like you to help us improve our overall outreach systems so we're continually getting better results from the same amount of work.
