Full job description

Staff nurses in hospitals are responsible for providing high-quality, direct patient care, including monitoring conditions, administering medication, developing treatment plans, and operating medical equipment. They also manage patient admissions/discharges, maintain hygienic environments, and coordinate with doctors to ensure patient recovery. Key duties of a staff nurse include:Direct Patient Care & Clinical Duties

Monitoring and Assessment: Conducting patient assessments, making bed-to-bed rounds, and monitoring patient conditions before and after surgery.
Medication and Treatment: Administering medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed by physicians.
Hygiene and Safety: Ensuring patient comfort, safety, and hygiene, including managing, feeding, and changing patients.
Emergency Response: Treating emergency injuries and acting quickly in critical situations.
Procedures: Assisting doctors with procedures and, in psychiatric units, managing aggressive or suicidal patients.

Administrative and Ward Management

Documentation: Maintaining meticulous, accurate patient records, reports, and nursing notes.
Inventory Control: Checking, maintaining, and organizing ward supplies, equipment, and linens.
Shift Management: Taking over charge from previous shifts and coordinating with the healthcare team.
Environmental Maintenance: Ensuring the ward is clean, safe, and tidy.

Educational and Supervisory Roles

Supervision: Supervising nurse aides, junior nurses, or nursing students in patient care tasks.
Education: Teaching and educating patients and their relatives regarding care and, in some cases, providing clinical teaching for students.
Orientation: Assisting in the orientation of new staff members.

Key Skills Required

Communication & Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and staff.
Critical Thinking: Ability to make quick, effective decisions regarding patient care.
Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of medical equipment and procedures.
