Full job description

Managing Director / Head of Technology and Operations

Location: India — Remote/Hybrid Initially; Regular Presence in Gurugram/Delhi NCR Required as the Office Is Established

Reports To: U.S.-Based Executive Leadership

Position Overview

A U.S.-based group of healthcare and technology companies is establishing a wholly owned technology subsidiary in India. We are seeking an experienced Managing Director / Head of Technology and Operations to establish, build, and lead the India organization.

This executive will create the company’s India technology operation from the ground up, recruit and manage the initial team, oversee software delivery, establish operating procedures, and coordinate closely with U.S. leadership.

The ideal candidate has significant experience building or scaling technology organizations, leading software engineering teams, managing offshore delivery, and working with U.S.-based companies or clients.

The selected candidate is also expected to serve as an India-resident director of the subsidiary. The directorship is a governance and management role and does not include equity ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Help establish and launch the company’s Indian subsidiary and office operations.
Develop the organization structure, staffing plan, operating procedures, budgets, and reporting systems.
Recruit and lead teams across software engineering, QA, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, security, project management, product management, and design.
Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, quality, confidentiality, and timely delivery.
Oversee multiple software-development projects serving affiliated U.S. healthcare and technology companies.
Translate business priorities into technology plans, staffing requirements, schedules, and deliverables.
Evaluate technical architecture, engineering quality, project feasibility, and delivery risks.
Establish appropriate software-development, testing, documentation, deployment, and change-management practices.
Lead the transition of technology work from external vendors to the internal India team.
Coordinate knowledge transfer, repository access, documentation, development environments, credentials, and project handoffs.
Establish controls for source code, intellectual property, cybersecurity, system access, and confidential information.
Manage operating budgets, staffing costs, vendors, office expenses, and technology resources.
Maintain regular operational, financial, staffing, and project reporting to U.S. leadership.
Serve as the principal liaison between the India organization and U.S.-based executives, product owners, and affiliated companies.
Participate in meetings across India and U.S. time zones when reasonably required.
Travel within India and periodically to the United States, if needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, business administration, or a related field.
At least 12 years of progressive experience in software development, technology leadership, engineering management, IT operations, or related functions.
At least 5 years of senior leadership experience.
Demonstrated success building, scaling, or restructuring a technology organization.
Significant experience recruiting and managing software engineers and technical teams.
Strong understanding of software-development lifecycles, QA, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technical project management.
Experience managing multiple projects, budgets, vendors, and distributed teams.
Experience working directly with U.S.-based companies, executives, or clients.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Strong judgment, integrity, accountability, and discretion.
Ability to work independently while following defined governance and approval requirements.
Ability to satisfy the applicable requirements for serving as an India-resident director.
Willingness to serve as a non-equity director of the Indian subsidiary.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience as a Managing Director, Country Head, CTO, VP of Engineering, Engineering Director, Head of Delivery, or GCC leader.
Experience establishing or managing a captive technology center or Global Capability Center in India.
Experience transitioning work from an external software vendor to an internal team.
Experience with U.S. healthcare technology, SaaS, AI-enabled products, revenue cycle management, or care-management platforms.
Familiarity with AWS, cloud infrastructure, enterprise software, data security, and HIPAA-related safeguards.
Experience coordinating with Indian legal, accounting, payroll, employment, banking, and compliance professionals.
Strong professional network within India’s technology sector.

First Six-Month Priorities

Support completion of the India subsidiary’s operational setup.
Establish the initial office and administrative infrastructure.
Prepare and execute the hiring plan.
Recruit the first technology and software-development team.
Implement development, security, reporting, and project-management procedures.
Lead the transition of active projects from existing vendors.
Create a scalable operating structure capable of supporting multiple U.S. companies.
