Full job description

The Controller will be responsible for managing the complete accounting function for a portfolio of US clients. This role requires strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close processes, internal controls, cash flow management, budgeting, and team leadership.

The ideal candidate should be capable of acting as a trusted finance partner to business owners while ensuring timely and accurate financial information.

Location: Remote (India)

Shift: US Shift (4pm to 1.30am IST)

CredibleCFO is a cloud accounting and finance firm serving small and medium-sized businesses across the United States. We provide bookkeeping, accounting, financial reporting, CFO advisory, tax support, and business process improvement services using modern cloud accounting platforms.

We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations for multiple US-based clients, lead accounting teams, ensure financial accuracy, and provide strategic financial insights that help our clients grow their businesses.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate should be capable of acting as a trusted finance partner to business owners while ensuring timely and accurate financial information.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee the complete accounting cycle for assigned US clients.
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure compliance with US GAAP and client-specific reporting requirements.
Analyze financial performance and provide actionable recommendations.
Monitor key financial metrics and KPIs.

Month-End & Year-End Close

Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
Ensure all accounts are reconciled accurately and on time.
Review accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and depreciation schedules.
Maintain supporting schedules and workpapers.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Assist clients with budgeting and financial forecasting.
Develop cash flow projections and financial models.
Monitor budget variances and provide explanations and recommendations.
Support strategic planning and business decision-making.

Internal Controls & Compliance

Design and maintain effective internal controls.
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Support audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
Assist with tax preparers and compliance requirements.

Client Management

Serve as the primary finance contact for assigned clients.
Conduct regular financial review meetings with business owners.
Present financial reports and business insights.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation.

Team Leadership

Lead and mentor accounting managers, senior accountants, and bookkeeping staff.
Review work performed by team members.
Allocate workload and manage team productivity.
Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.
Train and develop team members on accounting best practices.

Systems & Technology

Utilize cloud accounting platforms including:
- QuickBooks Online
- Xero
- Zoho Books
- Odoo
Drive automation and process improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.

Required Qualifications

Education

Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, CMA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Experience

5+ years of accounting and finance experience.
2+ years in a Controller, Finance Manager, or Senior Accounting Manager role.
Experience handling US-based clients is mandatory.
Experience working in an accounting firm or outsourced accounting environment preferred.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of:
- US GAAP
- Financial Reporting

Advanced Excel skills.
Experience with QuickBooks Online is mandatory.
Experience with Xero, Zoho Books, or Odoo is preferred.
