E-commerce Product Content Specialist
Musical Instruments & Pro Audio | Catalog Build-Out & Maintenance
Job Type: Full time/ Permanent
Job Timings: 12:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Role Overview
This is a substantial, long-term build-out and maintenance role. The successful candidate will take ownership of Evenstad Musikk & product catalog content — writing original product descriptions in English, sourcing and processing product imagery from legitimate channels, and capturing accurate, structured product attributes that power the storefront & filters and SEO.
English descriptions written by this role will be subsequently translated into Norwegian via AI by the Evenstad Musikk team. Norwegian language skill is therefore not required.
The role demands a rare combination: speed and volume on one hand, and disciplined integrity on the other. Evenstad Musikk has been explicit that this is not a corner-cutting position — a candidate who is sharp, curious, and unwilling to compromise on sourcing standards is far more valuable than one who is fast but careless.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Description Writing (English)
- Research products thoroughly using manufacturer websites, official product literature, datasheets, and reputable industry sources before writing.
- Write engaging, accurate, SEO-aware product descriptions in clear, professional English — sized appropriately for the product (more depth on flagship items, concise on accessories).
- Use AI writing assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) strategically to accelerate output — but never accept generic, padded, or unverified AI text. Every description must add real value to the customer and the store & organic search performance.
- Maintain consistency in tone, structure, and depth across the catalog so the storefront reads as one voice.
- Write every description from scratch using factual research. Never copy or substantively paraphrase descriptions from other retailers, marketplaces, or third-party listings.
2. Product Imagery
- Source product images exclusively from legitimate channels: manufacturer media libraries, official press kits, supplier-provided assets, and any media licensed for retailer use.
- When manufacturers supply unstructured archives — for example, a Dropbox folder of 1,000 images named by model rather than article number — work through the folder methodically and match each image to the correct SKU.
- Edit and standardize images for the storefront: cropping, background cleanup, white-balance, sizing, and format conversion to meet site specifications.
- Maintain consistent visual presentation across categories — predictable backgrounds, aspect ratios, and resolution so the catalog feels professional end-to-end.
- Never use images sourced from competitor retailers, marketplace listings, or any unlicensed source. When in doubt about an image & licensing status, flag it before publication.
3. Attributes & Specifications
Attributes are factual data about products — not copyrighted in the same way that descriptions and imagery are — and well-structured attributes drive site filters, comparison features, and organic search. Examples by category:
- Guitars & basses — number of frets, scale length, body wood, neck profile, fretboard material, pickup configuration, finish, hardware, case included
- Speakers & PA — power handling (RMS/peak), impedance, driver size and configuration, frequency response, dispersion, weight, dimensions, mounting options
- Microphones — polar pattern, frequency response, sensitivity, max SPL, connector type, phantom power requirements
- Keyboards & MIDI — number of keys, key action, polyphony, sound engine, connectivity, weight
Build and apply consistent attribute templates by product category, verify specifications against manufacturer datasheets, and reconcile conflicting information between sources before publishing.
4. Catalog Maintenance & New Product Onboarding
- Process incoming products on a weekly cadence — descriptions, images, and attributes for new arrivals.
- Audit and improve existing product pages against a prioritized backlog (likely starting with high-traffic, high-margin, or strategically important SKUs).
- Maintain a personal tracking system showing what is complete, in progress, blocked, and queued — clarity over throughput is more valuable than raw output.
- Communicate proactively about supplier asset gaps, source ambiguity, or anything blocking forward motion.
5. Quality, Compliance & Brand Integrity
- Uphold strict intellectual property compliance — never copy or paraphrase competitor content, descriptions, or imagery.
- Treat the Evenstad Musikk catalog as your own. Every product page reflects on the brand.
- Maintain a clean audit trail of source materials so any item can be traced back to its origin if questioned.
Required Skills & Experience
- Written English- Advanced to near-native fluency. Able to write clear, persuasive, technically accurate copy — and self-edit for tone, grammar, and concision.
- E-commerce experience- 2+ years in product content, catalog management, copywriting, digital merchandising, or PIM administration. Direct exposure to product detail page (PDP) work is essential.
- Large-scale SKU management — Must have prior experience handling high-volume e-commerce catalogs involving 25,000+ SKUs while maintaining strong accuracy and consistency.
- AI tool proficiency- Demonstrable skill using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar — including prompt design for specific, non-generic output and the discipline to verify factual accuracy before publishing.
- Image editing Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Affinity Photo, GIMP, or comparable tools. Comfort with cropping, background removal, resizing, color correction, and format conversion.
- Attention to detail- Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and consistency across high-volume, repetitive work without quality drift.
- Self-management- Track work, prioritize backlog, and hit weekly throughput targets without daily supervision. Communicates blockers early.
- Research literacy Comfortable navigating manufacturer websites, technical datasheets, and industry documentation. Knows how to triangulate conflicting specs. SEO awareness Understands keyword integration, header structure, alt-text discipline, and product-page meta fundamentals.
- File & data hygiene- Comfortable with Excel/Google Sheets, structured file naming, CSV/XLSX import workflows, and standardized folder conventions.
- Integrity- Committed to legitimate sourcing of every image and every fact. This is the single most important quality for this role.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
- Direct knowledge of musical instruments — guitars, basses, keyboards, drums, or percussion.
- Familiarity with pro audio equipment — speakers, amplifiers, mixers, microphones, monitors, studio gear.
- Experience with PIM (Product Information Management) systems.
- Photography or product-photography background.
- Experience with major e-commerce platforms (Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or custom systems).
- Prior experience writing for European or Scandinavian e-commerce markets.
Note: Music industry knowledge accelerates onboarding and makes attribute work easier — but a sharp, curious candidate without prior music exposure is welcome. Most of the technical knowledge can be learned on the job, provided the foundation of writing skill, AI discipline, and integrity is in place.
