About the Role
The Senior Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the entire production function across the manufacturing facility. This role ensures that production operations run efficiently, safely, and in alignment with company objectives. The position requires strong leadership to manage production engineers, supervisors, and shop-floor manpower while coordinating with departments such as procurement, quality control, stores, logistics, and engineering.
The Senior Production Manager will focus on achieving production targets, improving operational efficiency, reducing manufacturing costs, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring smooth workflow across all production activities. This role plays a critical part in optimizing resources, improving manufacturing processes, and ensuring timely delivery of finished goods.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Planning & Execution
- Develop, implement, and monitor production plans in alignment with company targets and operational goals.
- Ensure production schedules are executed efficiently to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
- Monitor production output and adjust schedules or resources to avoid delays or bottlenecks.
- Ensure proper coordination between production teams and supporting departments for uninterrupted operations.
- Resolve production-related issues, delays, or operational challenges promptly.
Manufacturing Operations Management
- Oversee the entire manufacturing process from raw material input to finished goods dispatch readiness.
- Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, machinery, materials, and utilities.
- Study machine requirements and production capacity to improve productivity.
- Maintain and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Monitor work-in-progress and ensure production processes follow defined procedures.
Team Leadership & Manpower Management
- Lead, train, and supervise production engineers, supervisors, and shop-floor staff.
- Allocate work responsibilities to manpower based on production requirements.
- Monitor daily attendance and workforce productivity.
- Ensure discipline, accountability, and performance standards across the production team.
- Provide training on new processes, safety procedures, and operational improvements.
Process Improvement & Efficiency
- Continuously evaluate manufacturing processes to improve productivity and reduce waste.
- Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality and output levels.
- Work with engineering teams to improve machine performance and production methods.
Quality Coordination
- Work closely with the Quality Control department to ensure all products meet required specifications and standards.
- Address quality issues immediately and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure production teams follow standard operating procedures and quality guidelines.
Cross-Department Coordination
- Liaise regularly with:
- Production Engineers
- Procurement Team
- Stores and Warehouse
- Quality Control Department
- Logistics and Dispatch Teams
- Engineering and Maintenance Teams
- Ensure timely availability of raw materials and production resources.
- Support smooth coordination between production and supply chain functions.
Inventory & Material Management
- Monitor raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory levels.
- Coordinate with procurement and stores to ensure timely availability of materials.
- Avoid production stoppages due to material shortages or planning gaps.
Cost Control & Budget Management
- Develop and manage the production budget.
- Monitor operational costs and implement measures to control expenses.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and resource efficiency.
Reporting & Production Analysis
- Generate regular production reports on:
- Daily production output
- Weekly and monthly production performance
- Machine utilization
- Downtime and maintenance
- Productivity and efficiency
- Analyse production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Present reports and insights to senior management.
Compliance, Safety & Regulatory Standards
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the production team.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, manufacturing standards, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain safe working conditions on the production floor.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- MBA in Operations or Industrial Management will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in manufacturing or production management.
- At least 5+ years in a leadership or senior production role.
- Experience managing large production teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with production machinery and shop-floor operations.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and production planning.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
- Knowledge of machine operations and production equipment.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and production management software.
- Good knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, reporting tools).
- Understanding of quality management systems and safety regulations.
