Full job description

Role : Merchandising Manager

Job Summary

Responsible for managing the end-to-end merchandising function, from product planning and customer requirements to product development, costing, production coordination, and final delivery. The Merchandising Manager ensures that products are developed according to market trends, customer expectations, quality standards, cost targets, and delivery schedules.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead and manage the Merchandising Team and allocate responsibilities according to business requirements.

· Develop merchandising plans based on sales trends, customer requirements, seasonal collections, and business targets.

· Coordinate with customers, buyers, designers, production teams, and suppliers to understand product requirements.

· Manage the complete product development process from concept/sample development to production and delivery.

· Coordinate with Design and Product Development teams for new sarees, fabrics, garments, dress materials, accessories, and textile collections.

· Review product specifications, samples, colors, fabrics, designs, measurements, embellishments, and finishing requirements.

· Coordinate with the Purchase Team to ensure timely availability of required fabrics, yarns, trims, accessories, and other materials.

· Prepare and review cost sheets, quotations, pricing, margins, and commercial details.

· Negotiate with suppliers and vendors, where required, to achieve competitive pricing and quality.

· Coordinate with Production and PPC teams to establish realistic production schedules.

· Monitor order status from sampling and approval through production, quality inspection, packing, and dispatch.

· Track production and delivery timelines and proactively resolve delays or bottlenecks.

· Work closely with the Quality Team to ensure products meet approved samples and customer specifications.

· Manage customer approvals for samples, colors, lab dips, fabrics, trims, packaging, and final products, where applicable.

· Maintain accurate records of customer requirements, product specifications, approvals, purchase orders, and order status.

· Monitor inventory and coordinate with Warehouse teams for material availability and finished goods readiness.

· Analyze sales and market trends to identify opportunities for new products, collections, and categories.

· Monitor competitor products, pricing, designs, and market developments.

· Ensure products are commercially viable while maintaining the required quality and brand positioning.

· Handle customer queries, complaints, changes, and special requirements professionally.

· Prepare regular reports covering order status, sales, margins, pending approvals, production progress, and delivery performance.

· Conduct regular merchandising meetings with Design, Purchase, Production, Quality, Warehouse, Finance, and Sales teams.

· Identify process improvements to reduce development time, production delays, excess inventory, and product costs.

· Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards.

· Textile-Specific Responsibilities

· Develop and manage collections for silk, cotton, linen, rayon, synthetic, blended, embroidered, printed, and other textile categories.

· Understand and communicate technical specifications such as GSM, fabric width, composition, weave/knit, shade, color, shrinkage, printing, embroidery, and finishing.

· Coordinate with designers and suppliers on weaving, dyeing, printing, embroidery, embellishment, and finishing requirements.

· Monitor shade/lot consistency and product quality during development and production.

· Manage seasonal collections such as wedding, festive, bridal, summer, and new-season ranges.

· Coordinate product assortment and ensure the right balance of design, price points, colors, fabrics, and customer segments.

· Support showroom and sales teams with product information, collection details, and launch timelines.

Requirement

· Experience in textile, garment, fashion, or retail merchandising, including managerial experience.

· Strong knowledge of textiles, fabrics, product development, costing, sourcing, and production processes.

· Excellent understanding of merchandising and order management.

· Strong commercial and negotiation skills.

· Good knowledge of ERP systems, MS Excel, and reporting tools.

· Strong leadership and team-management capabilities.

· Excellent communication and customer-management skills.

· Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities.

· Ability to manage multiple collections and deadlines simultaneously.
