Full job description

1. Job Purpose

To support the Housekeeping Department in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, presentation and guest comfort across guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house areas, while ensuring adherence to hotel standards, SOPs and safety requirements.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Guest Rooms & Suites

Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, bathrooms, corridors and assigned areas.
Ensure rooms are cleaned, serviced and presented according to established hotel standards.
Verify room readiness before releasing rooms to Front Office.
Monitor room status and coordinate closely with Front Office regarding arrivals, departures, VIPs, room moves and special requests.
Ensure all guest amenities, linen, toiletries and supplies are correctly placed and replenished.
Follow up on guest requests and ensure timely resolution of housekeeping-related concerns.
Report maintenance defects, damages or unusual observations immediately to Engineering and the Housekeeping management team.

B. Public Areas

Ensure cleanliness and presentation of lobbies, corridors, elevators, restrooms, staircases and other designated public areas.
Conduct regular inspections throughout the shift and ensure deficiencies are immediately rectified.
Ensure high standards of hygiene and presentation are maintained in guest-facing areas at all times.

C. Team Supervision

Supervise and guide Room Attendants, Public Area Attendants and other housekeeping associates as assigned.
Allocate daily duties and ensure adequate manpower coverage.
Conduct briefings at the beginning of shifts and communicate operational priorities.
Monitor attendance, grooming, punctuality and performance of team members.
Coach associates on cleaning techniques, service standards, SOPs and guest interaction.
Report performance issues, absenteeism and disciplinary concerns to the Housekeeping management team.

D. Linen, Uniforms & Supplies

Monitor the availability and proper usage of linen, towels, guest supplies, cleaning chemicals and housekeeping equipment.
Maintain appropriate par stocks and report shortages to the supervisor.
Ensure linen is handled, stored and transported correctly.
Monitor uniform standards and coordinate with the Uniform/Laundry function where applicable.
Ensure chemicals are correctly labelled, stored and used as per safety guidelines.

E. Lost & Found

Follow the hotel's Lost & Found procedure strictly.
Record, secure and hand over lost property in accordance with hotel policy.
Ensure all documentation relating to Lost & Found is accurate and complete.

F. Hygiene, Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with hotel hygiene, health and safety standards.
Follow proper procedures for handling cleaning chemicals and housekeeping equipment.
Report unsafe conditions, accidents, hazards or incidents immediately.
Participate in internal inspections, hygiene audits, fire drills and other compliance activities.

G. Guest Service

Maintain a courteous, professional and service-oriented approach with guests.
Respond promptly to guest requests and complaints.
Escalate unresolved or sensitive guest concerns to the appropriate supervisor/manager.
Protect guest privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Ensure special occasions, VIP amenities and guest preferences are executed accurately.

H. Administrative & Operational Duties

Maintain accurate checklists, inspection reports and departmental records.
Monitor productivity and completion of assigned tasks.
Participate in inventory counts and monthly stock-taking.
Assist in preparing departmental reports as required.
Attend departmental meetings and training sessions.
Support the Executive Housekeeper in implementing housekeeping SOPs and improvement initiatives.

Team grooming, attendance and discipline

4. Qualifications & Experience

Diploma/Degree in Hotel Management or a related hospitality qualification.
2–4 years of relevant experience in Housekeeping, preferably in a four- or five-star hotel.
Previous supervisory experience in a luxury/upscale hotel environment will be an advantage.
Good knowledge of guest room cleaning, public area operations, linen management and housekeeping procedures.
Working knowledge of hotel housekeeping systems and basic computer applications.
