Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Production Manager / Senior Production Manager with 10+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing to lead end-to-end production operations at our Hosur facility. The incumbent will be responsible for achieving production targets, improving productivity and OEE, ensuring quality and on-time delivery, optimizing manpower and resources, controlling manufacturing costs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the shop floor.
1. Production Operations Management
· Lead and manage end-to-end manufacturing operations including CNC machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, painting and final inspection.
· Ensure achievement of daily, weekly and monthly production targets in line with customer requirements.
· Monitor and improve productivity, OEE, capacity utilization and line efficiency.
· Optimize manpower, machines, materials, tooling and other production resources.
· Identify and eliminate production bottlenecks and minimize downtime.
· Ensure smooth and uninterrupted production flow across the shop floor.
· Drive effective shift planning and production performance monitoring.
2. Production Planning & Delivery
· Work closely with PPC, Supply Chain, Quality, Maintenance and other functions to meet production and customer delivery commitments.
· Ensure adherence to production plans and schedules.
· Monitor WIP and ensure optimum material flow throughout the manufacturing process.
· Review production achievement versus plan and initiate corrective actions for gaps.
· Ensure timely escalation and resolution of production constraints affecting delivery.
3. Quality & Process Control
· Ensure production processes comply with customer specifications, control plans and applicable automotive quality standards.
· Drive reduction in rejection, rework, scrap and customer complaints.
· Work closely with Quality teams for root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
· Lead problem-solving activities using 8D, Why-Why Analysis, Fishbone, CAPA and other structured methodologies.
· Drive Zero Defect Manufacturing culture across the production floor.
· Ensure process discipline and adherence to standard operating procedures and work instructions.
4. Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
· Lead implementation of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, TPM and Six Sigma initiatives.
· Improve OEE, cycle time, manpower productivity and process efficiency.
· Identify opportunities for waste elimination and cost reduction.
· Drive productivity improvement projects and process optimization.
· Lead automation and manufacturing improvement initiatives wherever applicable.
· Establish and monitor improvement targets for the production team.
5. Maintenance & Machine Availability
· Coordinate closely with Maintenance to ensure maximum equipment availability.
· Ensure effective implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
· Analyze recurring machine breakdowns and drive corrective actions.
· Minimize machine downtime and improve equipment reliability.
· Monitor critical production equipment and ensure timely maintenance interventions.
6. Manpower & Team Leadership
· Lead and develop Production Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, Team Leaders and Operators.
· Plan manpower requirements based on production volume and shift requirements.
· Develop skill matrices and training plans for production personnel.
· Monitor team performance and drive accountability for production KPIs.
· Build a strong shop-floor culture focused on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Productivity (SQDCP).
· Develop future leaders and ensure effective succession planning.
7. Safety, Health & Environment
· Ensure strict compliance with plant EHS policies, procedures and statutory requirements.
· Drive a Zero Accident culture across production operations.
· Ensure regular safety audits, risk assessments and closure of identified actions.
· Ensure compliance with applicable ISO 45001 and environmental requirements.
· Promote safe working practices and ensure proper use of PPE and safety equipment.
8. Cost & Productivity Management
· Monitor manufacturing costs and operational expenses.
· Drive reduction in manpower cost, material wastage, scrap, energy consumption and other manufacturing losses.
· Identify opportunities for improving cost per unit.
· Support annual budgeting and CAPEX planning for production.
· Evaluate the ROI and effectiveness of productivity improvement initiatives.
9. Customer & Audit Management
· Support customer audits, system audits and regulatory inspections.
· Ensure production-related compliance with IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements.
· Coordinate with Quality and other functions for closure of audit findings.
· Support resolution of customer complaints related to manufacturing processes.
· Ensure timely implementation and effectiveness verification of corrective actions.

Desired Candidate Profile
· 10+ years of overall experience in Production / Manufacturing, preferably in the automotive industry.
· Strong experience in shop-floor and production operations management.
· Hands-on exposure to CNC machining, assembly lines, fabrication, welding and automotive manufacturing processes.
· Proven experience in managing high-volume / multiple-process manufacturing operations.
· Strong knowledge of production planning, capacity planning, manpower planning and shop-floor control.
· Strong understanding of OEE, productivity, cycle time, rejection, rework and downtime analysis.
· Practical knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, TPM and Six Sigma concepts.
· Experience in structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, CAPA, Fishbone and Why-Why Analysis.
· Good understanding of IATF 16949, quality systems and EHS requirements.
· Strong leadership, analytical, decision-making and people-management skills.
· Should be capable of independently managing production operations and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. – Mechanical / Production / Automobile Engineering or equivalent.
Experience: 10+ years in automotive manufacturing, preferably with significant experience in a Production Manager / Senior Production Manager / Plant Production leadership role.
